Cake Table... FILLED!

I think my favorite part of wedding planning is all of the FUN mail you get!  Seriously!  Who wants those stupid bills, credit card offers, postcards from random churches/dentists, and grocery store flyers?  It's such a happy surprise to get a wedding box!  And guess what came in the box this week:

WEDDING CAKE SAMPLES!  Aren't they cute?!?
What a great idea... bake cake in jars!

Fillings... I'll get to that later!

One of my friends from high school now has her own business of making cakes (and other yummy treats), so when she offered to make our wedding cake, I was excited!  Check out Mary Jean's Cakes and Confections site or facebook page.

I'll be honest with you... Wedding cake has never been one of my favorites.  I'm not a big fan of frosting, but I don't really like dry cake either.  Usually wedding cake is dry with that cheap and gross frosting.  Needless to say, cake wasn't very high on my priority list!  Before my "friendor" (Friend-Vendor) had contacted me, I had looked into a couple different cake makers... NO F'ING WAY I'm going to spend $3-4 per serving.  Espeically when a "serving" is two bites and its dry or has that frosting that coats your mouth with fat!

Well, my friendor does cake a little different... she has some different fillings she can put in the cake.  Takes care of the dry problem!

She sent us jars of both cake and fillings that we wanted to try.  We tried them on our own the night we got them, then again this weekend when Jason's parents stopped for lunch. Seriously, this is some of the BEST cake I've ever had!

Here are our favorite combinations:

  • Almond Cake with White Chocolate Cream Cheese and Raspberry Filling
  • Red Velvet Cake with Chocolate Mousse
  • Carrot Cake with Dulce de Leche
  • Strawberry Cake with Strawberry Filling
  • Hummingbird Cake (plain... it's just that good!)

Which would you try at our wedding?  Do we need to have a plain white cake layer?  Neither Jason nor I will eat it... but will other people?

To end this post, I'll leave you with our "after" picture. :o) YUMM-O!!!

  1. I think you can do whatever your heart desires. If you don't want plain white cake, don't do it! If people don't like what you order, no one will force them to eat it. I, for one, think they all sound amazing...me and my pregnant self will eat whatever's on the cake table! :)
